We all latch on to ideas that feel right for us to help us live our lives the best we can. At our workplace we have found a few that we carry with us on a daily basis. Some are underlying principles from age old religions that are as relevant today as when they were first acted out and communicated.
The links on this page provide some of the values that we have learnt and would like to share. They make explicit 'ways of being' that can help us contribute to a world we all want to live in.
One that is a bit of a mantra for us is 'leave a place better than it was than when we arrived.' This can refer to a big picture like our whole life on the planet or to the little picture like our home when we leave it in the morning to go to work or to school, or a trip to the shops where we might see a bit of litter on the ground and pick it up. This concept comes from the principles of ecologically sustainable development.
Another thing we have learnt is that if we really desire a sustainable future we must address social inequity and justice issues. Have a look at the Earth Charter for a set of guiding principles to simply be the best people we can be.
